Hi, My name is Anthony Nicholas Quant. I was born on July 20th 2006. I love to sing, dance, play with all my toys and mostly torment TJ. TJ is one of two dogs we own, he is a Miniature Pinture and Floppy the other dog is a Cocker Spaniel.
When Anthony was born there were no signs of him having any health issues until he was diagnosed with GSD1a at 9 months old. In April of 2007 Anthony caught the flu and was not able to hold any food or fluids down. We had to rush him to Albany Med after he became dehydrated. It was during the ER doctor’s examination that they noticed Anthony’s liver was enlarged. They decided to keep him over night, which turned into 5 days. After days of testing with no conclusive answer they sent Anthony home. It was at this point we met Dr. Adams who strongly believed Anthony had GSD but needed conclusive evidence. There are two ways to determine if someone has GSD, a liver biopsy or DNA testing. We were opposed of a liver biopsy so it took DNA testing from Anthony and us (Mom/Dad) to conclude he had GSD1a. This process took longer, but we already started treating Anthony like he had GSD. At this point we were scared and didn't know what to expect. All we were told is there is no cure or treatment and we had to make sure Anthony's glucose didn't drop below a certain level. In order to maintain his glucose levels Anthony has to eat every three hours around the clock. Tara and I get up through out the night to feed Anthony; night time feeding is with Rice Milk and corn starch.
